Daltonganj: Two girl students of a govt upgraded middle school in Latehar district were injured on Wednesday after a portion of the plaster from the ceiling of a verandah fell on them. The incident occurred as the students were getting ready for their mid-day meal.
The injured girls were taken to the community health centre at Barwadeeh. Medical officer in-charge Dr Mantu Kumar said one girl suffered an injury on her leg which had to be stitched while the other sustained minor bruises on her head.
The mishap took place at the under Barwadeeh police station limits. Officer in-charge Anurag Kumar said both injuries were not serious. Sources blamed peeling plaster on rainwater stagnation on school roofs lacking drainage systems. The school principal could not be contacted for comments.
The wound had to be stitched after which she was administered a tetanus toxoid injection and antibiotics before being sent home. The other girl sustained minor bruises on her head. She showed no dizziness, loss of consciousness or headache and was discharged after treatment.
